The Special Projects Group of KPFF Consulting Engineers is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in Tacoma, WA. You will be based in our Tacoma office, with a view of Commencement Bay, and will be working closely with our team to deliver innovative solutions for our clients. We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering exceptional client service and is committed to exceeding expectations.
Key Responsibilities:- Apply your engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions for waterfront infrastructure and industrial developments.
- Contribute to projects involving pile design, bulkhead wall, prestressed concrete, and seismic design for Port developments, marine engineering, ferry and cruise terminals, shipyards, fish & wildlife facilities, marinas, and floating structures.
- Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.
- Ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements.
- Identify and overcome challenges through innovative problem-solving approaches, utilizing both traditional and modern engineering techniques.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (with a structural emphasis)
- MS in Civil Engineering preferred (with a structural emphasis)
- PE required
- SE preferred
- Concrete steel and timber design experience
- Pile design and bulkhead wall experience
- Prestressed concrete and seismic design experience
- Knowledge of ASCE 61-14, AASHTO, IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, ACI, and NDS
- Proficiency in SAP2000, L-Pile, MS Excel, and VBA is preferred
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven capability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills
- Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations
Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table. Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs. Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain. Traveling to project sites or client meetings may be required.
