A Day in the Role:

The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist at the Kosair for Kids Complex Care will deliver specialized treatment for residents experiencing respiratory or cardiopulmonary issues under the guidance of Respiratory Leadership. The specialist will engage in therapeutic interventions and diagnostic assessments aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents.


Work Schedule:
Full-time: Days, 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM, 2-3 shifts per week, including rotating weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit effective daily communication skills while maintaining professionalism in all interactions.
  • Surpass expectations of internal and external stakeholders: Residents, Families, Physicians, Colleagues, Visitors, and Vendors.
  • Adhere to the standards and procedures set forth by Home of the Innocents.
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams as necessary.
  • Complete tasks within established time frames.
  • Provide education and coaching to residents, families, and medical trainees as required.
  • Participate in Pulmonary Rounds as needed.
  • Administer pharmacological treatments via compressed gas on a daily basis.
  • Conduct pulmonary hygiene procedures daily.
  • Engage in ventilator and blood gas management.
  • Maintain readiness for medical emergencies as required.
  • Enhance residents' quality of life on a daily basis.
  • Maintain relevant certifications and pursue ongoing education as necessary.
  • Perform additional assigned duties as needed.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current, unencumbered Respiratory Therapist license/certification in Kentucky.
  • National Board of Respiratory Care certification or registration for Cardiopulmonary Services.
  • Proficiency in administering both routine and specialized treatments.
  • Knowledge of hygiene, health, and safety protocols.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with infection control practices.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding).
  • Ability to document and communicate effectively.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration with residents and facility staff.
