We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at MEDSTAR HEALTH. As a Pharmacy Technician - Oncology Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Medication Preparation and Dispensing: Prepare all medications, including narcotics, for dispensing, which includes drug selection, labeling, and packaging.
- Order Entry and Verification: Enter medication orders in the computer system, evaluating/editing patient data, checking for drug allergies and duplications, calculating dosage conversions, and determining the number of doses/dosage forms needed.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock inventory levels, and expiration dates, and replenish supplies of all stock drugs, communicating status/availability of drugs.
- Quality Improvement: Perform quality improvement activities such as code carts, Pyxis, and checking outdated medications.
- Customer Service: Respond to phone calls regarding medication orders and exemplify Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
- Experience: 3-4 years of hospital pharmacy experience (with IV admixture) preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications: LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech Registry with the D.C. Board of Pharmacy required.
- Skills and Abilities: Must have good written and verbal communication skills, basic mathematical skills, and a working knowledge of the metric system.
