Position Summary:

The Director of Community Engagement Strategy is tasked with shaping the Community Affairs strategy and ensuring cohesive execution within the Public Affairs framework to foster growth and profitability at Vail Resorts. This role emphasizes collaboration with resort leadership to implement business strategies, leveraging external insights and organizational data to achieve business objectives that address local or regional needs in a scalable manner. The Director will cultivate partnerships across the Public Affairs division to provide valuable services to leadership that align with the organization's goals.

This position resides within the Public Affairs Department and reports to the Vice President of Community and Government Affairs, focusing on public relations at the community level within the Rocky Mountain Region. The Director will engage directly with mountain resort leadership to facilitate outreach efforts aimed at building relationships with key government and community stakeholders, as well as to pursue and fulfill business and operational priorities in the communities we serve.

The ideal candidate is a proactive individual with proven strategic experience in planning and executing external affairs initiatives across diverse stakeholders, possessing the ability to influence others in alignment with our Company values and business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Public Affairs strategies to achieve business priorities within resort communities, including advocacy and management of special projects.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with local communities in alignment with our Community & Government Affairs strategy.
  • Analyze external trends and community engagement efforts against business priorities in collaboration with resort leadership.
  • Maintain awareness of key stakeholder and policy developments, providing strategic recommendations on issues affecting the Company.
  • Act as an external representative for Vail Resorts.
  • Collaborate across departments within Vail Resorts.
  • Work closely with the Public Affairs Department, including Public Relations, Environmental & Social Responsibility, and Government Affairs teams.
  • Support resort leadership in their external engagement and business priorities.
  • Facilitate communication between Public Affairs and Vail Resorts business units to drive collaborative decision-making.
  • Oversee the Community Analyst role and manage the operating budget for the Community & Government Affairs team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 6-12 years of relevant work experience, preferably in government affairs, regulatory entities, intergovernmental associations, or NGOs, or in business roles related to Marketing, Communications, Strategy, or Operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Proven ability to lead through uncertainty and simplify complex issues.
  • Experience in developing integrated strategies and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage credibly with senior executives and inspire confidence.
  • Passionate about community service, team leadership, and creating value in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Creative thinker with a proactive approach to improving processes and efficiencies.

The expected Total Compensation for this role is competitive and includes an annual bonus and equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on various factors.
