POSITION SUMMARY FOR PRACTICAL NURSING SPECIALISTS

The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) is responsible for delivering high-quality care in accordance with the established scope of practice as defined by the state nurse practice act for Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses. The PNS will undertake tasks and responsibilities as delegated and may assign duties to others within their scope of practice. The PNS will monitor patients as directed by the Health Services Administrator, Director of Nursing, Registered Nurse, or Medical Director.

SCHEDULE FOR PRACTICAL NURSING SPECIALISTS

  • Per Diem - Night Shift
  • Preferred Shift: Every Saturday; Minimum Requirement: Every Other Saturday
  • Compensation: $35/hr + $2.00 shift differential

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR PRACTICAL NURSING SPECIALISTS

  • Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in an acute care setting.
  • Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the state of employment.
  • Active CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of state laws and regulations governing nursing practice.
  • Successful completion of initial and annual clinical competencies as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF PRACTICAL NURSING SPECIALISTS

  • Employ a systematic approach to address the health needs of each patient.
  • Implement nursing care within the PNS's scope of practice, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Assist in developing and executing educational plans tailored to individual patient needs, focusing on health promotion, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Provide wound care with appropriate cleaning and dressing techniques.
  • Administer medications as prescribed.
  • Care for multiple patients as directed by the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, or Registered Nurse.
  • Monitor vital signs and report any changes to the appropriate medical personnel.
  • Document all actions in the Medication Administration Record and medical records.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned by the facility.
