Position Available: Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Attendant


We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Attendant to provide care for our patients and assist our Veterinarians and Technicians. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the comfort of our furry patients and the efficient operation of our facility. A key responsibility of the Veterinary Assistant is to maintain cleanliness throughout all areas. You will assist our Veterinarians and Technicians during examinations, procedures, and surgeries. This includes performing routine tasks such as feeding and bathing animals, caring for boarders, and being prepared to tend to injured or anxious pets. Understanding pet body language is an essential skill for this position. If you are organized, quick-thinking, and passionate about animal care, we would like to hear from you.


Work Schedule:
Full-time hours, consisting of 9-hour shifts with a 1-hour lunch break. Weekend and holiday shifts may be required when our facility has boarders, with Saturday hours on a rotating basis.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Feed, groom, and weigh animals
  • Bathe animals as needed
  • Sanitize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms
  • Properly clean and prepare surgical kits/instruments
  • Operate the autoclave, ensuring cleanliness and readiness
  • Safely restrain animals during examinations, x-rays, and ultrasound procedures
  • Handle upset or frightened animals with care
  • Assist in surgical procedures, including setup and cleanup
  • Gather patient history from clients
  • Monitor changes in patient conditions
  • Order prescription diets when necessary
  • Process payments and manage phone calls/schedule appointments as needed
  • Enter charges into the computer system at the end of each client visit when requested
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all work areas
  • Feed, walk, and care for boarders
  • Monitor and care for all inpatient animals
  • Communicate with clients, providing updates and answering questions
  • Administer and store medications appropriately
  • Restock supplies throughout the facility
  • Perform laundry duties
  • Conduct daily cleaning, including exam rooms, work areas, restrooms, and cages
  • Assist with end-of-life services as needed
  • Fulfill additional duties assigned by management as required

Qualifications:

  • Team-oriented approach
  • Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role with animals
  • Proficient in computer usage
  • Current or previous pet ownership is advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Patient, caring, and outgoing demeanor
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Comfortable working with various animals (cats, dogs, etc.)
  • Capable of meeting the physical demands of the role (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs)
  • Flexible schedule with availability for afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts
  • Willingness to work in emergency situations when necessary
  • Able to handle emotionally charged situations
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and prefers to stay busy
