Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Director of Residential Care, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in delivering direct care and supervision to residents, while diligently observing and reporting their conditions to the Individual Service Plan Team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide empathetic and secure care for all residents.

2. Respond promptly and professionally to residents' needs with courtesy.

3. Deliver care and oversight to residents as outlined in their Individual Service Plan, including monitoring vital signs and documenting any signs or symptoms of illness.

4. Recognize when assistance or medical intervention is necessary and take appropriate action.

5. Monitor residents' vital signs, contact healthcare providers, and initiate emergency services when required.

6. Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, attending all staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops.


7. Supervise residents during medication administration, follow medication protocols, and conduct weekly weight checks for designated residents, reporting any significant changes to the Registered Nurse.


8. Complete end-of-shift reports detailing resident activities and house operations for the incoming shift and management.

9. Conduct regular rounds of the facility at least every two hours, increasing frequency as necessary.

10. Uphold resident confidentiality at all times.

11. Foster positive relationships with residents, staff, volunteers, and representatives from various agencies.

12. Exhibit self-direction and initiative in prioritizing, organizing, and fulfilling job responsibilities.


13. Assist residents with housekeeping and laundry as needed, ensuring that living spaces are tidy and common areas are free of hazards.


14. Answer phone calls in a courteous and professional manner, taking accurate messages and relaying them to residents promptly. Perform additional duties as required.

Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis, with the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs. Employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or possess a medically or religiously approved exemption.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. Certification as a Home Health Aide or Nursing Attendant in California.

3. Basic knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions, including the use of protective equipment.

4. Successful completion of a criminal background check.

5. BCLS and Red Cross Certification.

6. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

1. Cultural sensitivity and a non-judgmental approach are essential.

2. Awareness and understanding of issues related to homelessness and/or HIV/AIDS.

3. Basic understanding of the care needs of individuals living with HIV.

4. Ability to work compassionately with diverse populations in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner.

5. Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding both English and Spanish.

6. CPR/First Aid Certification is required.
