The Physician Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting, monitoring, and managing the daily healthcare needs of patients under the guidance and supervision of a physician.

This role specifically involves Night Coverage for the Urology Department.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Physician Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Gathering comprehensive and precise patient histories, identifying issues, and presenting findings to the supervising physician.
  • Prescribing medications within established guidelines, ensuring compliance with protocols and directives from the supervising physician.
  • Assisting in surgical procedures when a qualified assistant is not required, as determined by the supervising surgeon.
  • Supporting the supervising physician in procedural settings when appropriate.
  • Documenting post-operative and post-procedure notes and orders for the supervising physician.
  • Managing post-procedure care as directed by the primary physician.
  • Performing essential medical procedures such as starting IVs, inserting catheters, and conducting blood transfusions.
  • Engaging in research initiatives by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Recognizing the unique needs of the patient population and tailoring care accordingly, considering factors such as age, culture, and communication abilities.
  • Complying with the standards set forth in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Completion of an accredited physician assistant program recognized by the AMA Council on Medical Education.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Valid Physician Assistant License.
  • Certification from the National Commission for Certified Physician Assistants (NCCPA) within one year of employment.
