The Patient Care Technician is responsible for addressing the needs of patients within the healthcare facility, executing tasks as directed by the supervising nurse or unit leader. This role requires training in delivering care that is appropriate for various age groups, in alignment with the hospital's policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adheres to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Monitors and reports vital signs accurately.
- Handles incoming calls, documents necessary details, and directs messages to the relevant personnel.
- Maintains up-to-date patient records.
- Alerts nursing staff of any notable changes in patient conditions promptly.
- Requests necessary supplies and equipment.
- Ensures all films are returned by the end of the shift.
- Facilitates patient transport as required.
- Obtains x-rays and medical records as needed.
- Assists in the chemotherapy department when necessary.
- Prepares sufficient blank charts for new patient admissions.
- Types correspondence, generates reports, and photocopies documents as required.
- Ensures all patient charts are equipped with the necessary documentation forms.
- Communicates messages to the appropriate healthcare provider within a timely manner.
- Prioritizes orders in the entry system efficiently.
- Posts all reports accurately and promptly.
- Coordinates patient appointments with physicians and other departments.
- Utilizes computer systems effectively.
- Provides assistance to colleagues as needed, ensuring productive use of time.
- Pre-admits patients prior to their initial consultation day.
- Handles phone calls professionally, screening and relaying messages to staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize and address priorities effectively.
- Processes orders for radiology and laboratory tests.
- Collects co-payments and directs funds to the appropriate area.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is preferred upon hire and required within 30 days of hire.
