Role and Purpose:
The Family Support Specialist is responsible for delivering parent education, facilitating educational initiatives, and providing direct casework support to families through the Every Child Succeeds Program. This role focuses on assisting both Spanish and English-speaking families from prenatal stages to age three, within their home environment, aiming to foster a safe and nurturing atmosphere for children while promoting their readiness for academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops a service delivery plan based on thorough analysis and interpretation of collected data.
- Records all observed child development milestones and family interactions in various web-based systems, including documentation of completed forms and assessments.
- Ensures all outreach efforts to families and communications with professionals on their behalf are meticulously documented.
- Participates in team meetings, required training sessions, agency gatherings, and supervision meetings.
- Maintains a weekly schedule with the supervisor, adheres to sign-in/out protocols, and manages cell phone usage within allowed limits.
- Engages in weekly supervisory meetings, dedicating at least 1.5 hours for clinical oversight.
- Coordinates with the Family Education Support Specialist and supervisor to reschedule missed supervision sessions.
- Reviews client cases individually with the supervisor, both formally and informally.
- Identifies the service level for each client to facilitate case weighting.
- Conducts brainstorming sessions and follow-ups on referrals, including shadow visits with the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field from an accredited institution (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). A specialization in social work or two years of experience in a social work agency is mandatory. Experience in home visiting or working with children aged birth to three is preferred. A valid driver’s license is essential.
Proficiency in technical skills is required, including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and the ability to utilize standard Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment:
The role involves exposure to a mix of office, educational, and mental health treatment settings. The specialist may encounter children exhibiting behavioral challenges and may be subject to verbal and physical aggression. There may also be exposure to bodily fluids.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform essential job functions, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities. Regular activities include sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Safe operation of a motor vehicle in varying weather conditions is necessary.
