Position Overview: The Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily operational functions of the venue, including direct oversight of utility operations personnel and indirect management of daytime housekeeping and third-party janitorial staff during non-event periods. This role ensures adherence to operational standards and maintains the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of the venue's common areas. The Operations Supervisor will also oversee the department's safety and sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures during special events. Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the venue's utility operations team while coordinating maintenance activities with engineering staff. Indirectly supervise loading dock operations and daytime housekeeping staff, ensuring event needs are met during morning shifts.
- Oversee the ice-making team to ensure compliance with specifications for NHL games, collaborating with the Ice Foreman to implement best practices for maintaining high-quality ice.
- Enforce labor regulations to ensure compliance with local union contracts in collaboration with union representatives.
- Conduct regular inspections of the venue to identify and document maintenance, safety, and cleanliness issues, distributing work orders to appropriate departments for resolution.
- Manage the operational budget for maintenance supplies and utilities, overseeing inventory and procurement processes.
- Inspect back-of-house operations to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, reporting issues to senior management.
- Play a key role in developing and managing the venue's safety programs in line with Injury and Illness Prevention protocols, tracking team member training on safety topics.
- Lead sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing waste from the venue, collaborating with sustainability managers and service providers to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Assist in managing special event load-ins and load-outs, ensuring the venue's property is protected and documenting any damages for billing purposes.
- Support campus emergency management efforts as needed, maintaining an inventory of related equipment and performing other assigned duties.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required (BA/BS Degree preferred).
- 4-6 years of experience in event-related roles, including supervisory or management experience.
- Familiarity with NBA, NHL, live events, or family shows.
- Experience in venue or facility management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and ability to learn necessary business systems.
- Experience managing departmental budgets.
- Knowledge of quality control processes.
- Experience in developing and implementing safety programs.
- Experience in sustainability program development.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Understanding of safety practices and standards for public facilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Capability to achieve results through effective execution of strategies.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
- Availability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Previous experience with union operations.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain.
- Membership in the Facility Ops Manager Association (FOMA).
- Certified Ice Technician (CIT) certification.
- Completion of IAVM VMS 1 & 2 courses.
- Working knowledge of trades such as electrical, plumbing, engineering, HVAC, and construction.
- Experience in crowd management dynamics.
