Overview
Position Summary
This role involves a rotating schedule and plays a crucial part in the formulation and execution of pharmacy departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and goals. The position supports the establishment of professional standards to guarantee high-quality pharmacy services and operates under the direct guidance of the Director of Pharmacy Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Pharmacy Leadership to make decisions related to hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations of pharmacy staff.
  • Conducts annual evaluations of pharmacy staff performance.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies, including the DEA, FDA, and the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  • Manages pharmacy staffing and scheduling to maintain safe patient care.
  • Facilitates coordination and integration of services across departments and participates in various committees.
  • Ensures adherence to policies and procedures that promote the safe and effective use of medications.
  • Assists in planning new or revised pharmacy services in response to innovations, technology advancements, and regulatory updates.
  • Evaluates and enhances the performance of pharmacy services through ongoing assessments.
  • Coordinates the implementation of plans and supports decisions made by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Initiates training for pharmacy staff in their areas of responsibility.

Physical Requirements
This position requires significant walking and standing, the ability to push a medication cart weighing up to 50 pounds, and lift materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be utilized to minimize exposure to hazardous substances. Precautions must be taken to avoid needle sticks, minor cuts, or bruises. The role necessitates proficient manual dexterity for tasks such as writing, typing, and data entry. Good hearing ability is required to communicate effectively in a moderately noisy environment, and the ability to read small print on medication packaging is essential.

Education, Experience, and Certifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or a PharmD from an accredited institution is required. Candidates must be licensed in North Carolina or eligible for reciprocity. A minimum of two years of relevant pharmacy experience is necessary, with a preference for candidates possessing at least five years of acute care pharmacy experience and leadership in a hospital pharmacy setting.
