About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Bakery Clerk to join our team at Fresh Thyme Farmers Market. As a Bakery Clerk, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our bakery department, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the bakery department, including the storage area and work area.
  • Assist customers with purchases, provide product information, and promote sales of bakery products.
  • Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy, temperature, and quality.
  • Monitor point-of-purchase signs and ensure a variety of recipe cards, product coupons, and promotional materials are available.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, and hand trucks.
  • Prepare various bakery foods, including using the appropriate ingredients and cooking times.
  • Use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
  • Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including backstock and ensuring tags match products.
  • Sustain a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
  • Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency degree.
  • Preferred 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in the bakery department.
  • Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of customer service, adapt to changing situations, and work in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
  • Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
  • Knowledge of the baking cycle and baking terminology is preferred.
Working Conditions

The Bakery Clerk will work in a fast-paced retail environment with frequent standing, walking, and lifting. The ability to work in extreme temperatures and exposure to ventilation and exhaust fans is required.
