Job Summary:

The Radiology Interventional Technologist is a key member of the Imaging department at Heart Hospital of Austin, providing technical assistance to physicians in diagnostic and interventional procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of patient care quality standards, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform radiological and interventional procedures in a timely manner, documenting required information and communicating with primary physicians and direct care staff.
  • Coordinate and assist patient care in collaboration with radiology technologists, physicians, nurses, and allied health staff.
  • Evaluate patient condition to perform radiological and interventional exams, informing and explaining procedures to patients and their families.
  • Provide comprehensive direct patient care, ensuring a safe and comforting environment.
  • Consult with staff as necessary to meet patient needs, ensuring availability of clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Perform Point of Care procedures in a timely manner, documenting required information and complying with quality control standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with equipment in the Interventional Suite procedure room, including fluoroscopy, pan tables, and monitors.
  • Understand supplies used for specified procedures and demonstrate familiarity with renal, neuro, peripheral, and vascular anatomy.
  • Perform the role of circulator during procedures, pulling supplies and altering technique as needed.
  • Troubleshoot simple equipment issues and respond to calls in departmental policy guidelines.
  • Communicate with radiologists and other physicians to coordinate and facilitate interventional schedules and patient care.
  • Provide statistical reports within established timeframes and use resources efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Participate in developing other staff and affiliating students, maintaining and developing own professional competencies.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Radiology or equivalent
  • Graduate of an educational program in radiology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or an American Medical Association-approved program in Radiologic Technology or a military training program of equivalent standards
  • Current Medical Radiologic Technologist certification with the Texas Medical Board (TMB)
  • One of the following current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)/Registered Radiologic Technologist RT(R), (VI) license
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date
