Job Title: Automation Engineer

Scot Forge is a 130-year-old, 100% employee-owned company that manufactures custom open die and rolled ring forgings. We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our team and help us drive innovation in our manufacturing processes.

Job Summary:

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated systems to improve manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and quality. This includes working with existing system controls, such as heat treat, and other control-driven systems, as well as researching and developing new processes and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop automated systems to improve manufacturing efficiency and productivity
  • Work with existing system controls, such as heat treat, and other control-driven systems
  • Research and develop new processes and equipment to improve manufacturing efficiency and productivity
  • Develop written specifications and budgets for new automation tools, such as robots, co-bots, ASRS, and other systems
  • Quote and procure new systems that align with written specifications and budgets
  • Buy-off of installed automated systems to ensure they meet written specifications
  • Designs meet or exceed respective codes, with a priority on plant and personnel safety
  • Research and review advanced sensing and integration of these systems into automation
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production control, or project management
  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in a technical or manufacturing field
  • Preferred experience in solid modeling methods, such as Solidworks
  • Ability to read and interpret complex industrial specifications and contracts
  • Advanced technical communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Understanding of material specifications, costing, shop floor terminology, and manufacturing processes
  • Previous project management experience, including budget and schedule creation, project scoping, and team development
Working Conditions:

The Automation Engineer will work in a shop setting, with exposure to various working conditions, including elevated work, close quarters, extreme heat, extreme cold, dust, debris, fumes, and noise. The position requires physical demands, such as heavy and light lifting, crawling, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, etc. PPE requirements include harnesses and arc flash gear.
