We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Controls Engineer to join our team at Franklin Automation Inc.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing electrical and controls systems for our custom assembly machines. This will involve working closely with our controls programmer to develop and maintain standardized machine control platforms, as well as performing actual machine wiring and debugging as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical System Design: Develop electrical and controls system design solutions based on Franklin's standard engineering principles.
  • Client Requirements Interpretation: Interpret client requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems, and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget.
  • Machine Control Platform Development: Work closely with Franklin's controls programmer to develop and maintain standardized machine control platforms.
  • Project Documentation: Provide comprehensive project documentation in the form of machine sequences to programmer(s).
  • Design Creation: Create and finalize designs to meet project requirements.
  • Bill of Materials Creation: Create accurate detailed Bill of Materials.
  • Design Reviews: Actively participate in both internal and customer design reviews for all assigned projects.
  • Automation System Integration: Build complex automation as designed with a focus on electrical and pneumatic systems, including panel layout and wiring, panel to machine wiring, and machine pneumatics.
  • Device Integration: Integrate automation devices with machine control, including Servo Drives, Robots, Label machines, dispensers, leak testers, vision systems, etc.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed.
  • On-Site Installation and Commissioning: Install and commission machines onsite at customer facilities.
  • Customer Documentation: Create customer documentation, such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings.
Requirements
  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or similar related degree).
  • Experience: - 6 years related job experience.
  • Driver's License: Valid Driver's License.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with MS Office, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs, including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems.
  • Citizenship: Applicants must be a citizen of the United States. No VISA sponsorship is available for this role.
