Job Summary:

Draper Labs is seeking a Radiation Systems Specialist to assess and mitigate the impact of radiation on system performance. This role involves analyzing environments, transporting those environments through system enclosures, modeling radiation interactions with components and sensors, or testing components and sensors. Typical systems and components include inertial navigation systems, inertial sensors, MEMS devices, ASICs, fiber optics, and other electronic components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support engineering decisions based on radiation effects on overall system performance.
  • Design and verify the performance of systems across multiple radiation effects, including dose rate, total ionizing dose, neutron displacement damage, and single event effects.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure radiation hardening is maintained across the product lifecycle.
  • Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction, contributing to task planning and technical development, proposing ways forward, and adapting to changes in program requirements.
  • Lead small teams and provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes.
  • Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful feedback.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a relevant field. A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of Radiation Engineering or related experience.
