Ohio History Connection is a prominent statewide organization dedicated to the exploration and preservation of Ohio's rich historical narratives. Established in 1885, our mission is to facilitate the discovery and sharing of Ohio's stories through various programs and initiatives, including the management of over 50 historical sites and museums throughout the state.


Role Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering community relationships and strategically aligning organizational resources to enhance the health and well-being of Ohio's communities. This position is tasked with strengthening existing partnerships and cultivating new connections, particularly within the neighborhoods of Linden, Weinland Park, and the Near East Side. By employing principles of Asset-Based Community Development, collective impact, and trauma-informed care, the Coordinator will work to build trust with historically marginalized communities, aligning with the mission and strategic objectives of Ohio History Connection.


Key Responsibilities:

Direct Community Engagement:

  • Enhance existing partnerships and establish new connections that link communities with Ohio History Connection's programs and services, focusing on:
    • Mobilizing resources to support the health and well-being of individuals and communities.
    • Maximizing the impact of current programs and offerings.
    • Adapting programs to meet evolving community needs.
    • Demonstrating organizational core values through engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the neighborhoods of Linden, Weinland Park, and the Near East Side, fostering relationships with local residents and organizations.
  • Participate in outreach events and programs, utilizing available transportation options.
  • Support the development and execution of the Columbus Museums for All Hub and related initiatives.
  • Gather and relay community feedback to improve understanding of local needs.
  • Advance community engagement efforts that empower residents as active participants in the organization's mission.
  • Act as a resource for external inquiries related to community engagement.

Program Sustainability & Administration:

  • Innovate methods for documenting and sharing the histories of Ohioans, particularly from historically excluded areas.
  • Oversee budget management and tracking.
  • Prepare proposals for grants and sponsorships to secure funding for programs.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts and relationship management.
  • Manage program evaluations and assist in reporting outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to enhance awareness and recruitment efforts.

Organizational Alignment:

  • Strengthen internal relationships to optimize resource coordination and program alignment, with a focus on community engagement and local history initiatives.
  • Support established departmental services, including Historical Markers and community engagement initiatives.
  • Work closely with outreach services to enhance relationships with partners.

Qualifications:

An Associate's degree in a relevant field combined with three to five years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with one to three years of experience.
