About Ohio History Connection:

Ohio History Connection is a prominent statewide organization dedicated to uncovering and sharing the rich narratives of Ohio. Established in 1885, OHC provides essential historical services aimed at preserving and disseminating the state's heritage. This includes managing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history initiatives, and overseeing over 50 historical sites and museums throughout Ohio.


Role Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering community relationships and strategically aligning organizational resources to enhance the health and welfare of Ohio's diverse populations. This position is focused on strengthening existing partnerships and establishing new connections, particularly with Immigrant and Refugee communities. By employing Asset-Based Community Development, collective impact strategies, human-centered design, and trauma-informed approaches, the Coordinator will build trust with historically marginalized groups to support the mission and strategic objectives of the Ohio History Connection.


Key Responsibilities:

Direct Community Engagement:

  • Enhance and cultivate relationships with communities, focusing on connecting established and new partners to existing programs and services to achieve the following goals:
    • Position Ohio History Connection as a leading contributor to the overall health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
    • Maximize the potential of current programs and services offered by Ohio History Connection.
    • Guide the development and evolution of programs to ensure they align with community needs.
    • Exemplify the organization's core values through community engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Ohio's Immigrant and Refugee communities by fostering relationships with New American organizations and individuals.
  • Participate in outreach events and programs, utilizing personal or public transportation.
  • Engage with ongoing initiatives involving Immigrant and Refugee partners.
  • Provide support for the launch and sustainability of community programs.
  • Act as Project Director for community engagement teams, including planning and managing cohort activities.
  • Gather and relay community feedback to enhance service delivery.
  • Advance programs that empower community members as advocates and leaders in alignment with the organization's mission.
  • Serve as a point of contact for external inquiries related to community engagement.

Administrative and Sustainability Duties:

  • Innovate methods for documenting and sharing the histories of Immigrant and Refugee communities.
  • Oversee budget management and tracking.
  • Prepare proposals for grants and sponsorships to secure funding for programs.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts and relationship management.
  • Conduct ongoing program evaluations and assist in reporting.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to enhance awareness and recruitment efforts.

Organizational Alignment:

  • Strengthen internal relationships to optimize resource coordination and program alignment.
  • Support established departmental services and initiatives.
  • Coordinate closely with outreach services to enhance partner relationships.

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in a relevant field with three to five years of related experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with one to three years of relevant experience.
