Established in 1885, our mission is to facilitate the discovery of Ohio's narratives while providing essential history services to its citizens. Our organization oversees the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, and manages numerous historical sites and museums throughout Ohio.


Role Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering community relationships and effectively coordinating organizational resources to enhance the well-being of Ohio's neighborhoods. This position focuses on strengthening existing partnerships and establishing new connections, particularly within the Linden, Weinland Park, and Near East Side areas. By employing strategies such as Asset-Based Community Development and human-centered design, the Coordinator will build trust and collaboration with historically marginalized communities, aligning with the core values and strategic objectives of Ohio History Connection.


Key Responsibilities:

Direct Community Engagement:

  • Develop and enhance relationships with community members and organizations to connect them with Ohio History Connection's programs and services, aiming to:
    • Position Ohio History Connection as a leading contributor to community health and well-being.
    • Maximize the impact of existing programs and services.
    • Guide the evolution of programs to better serve community needs.
    • Exemplify the organization's core values through engagement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary contact for the Linden, Weinland Park, and Near East Side neighborhoods, nurturing relationships with local residents and organizations.
  • Participate in outreach events and programs to promote community involvement.
  • Support the design and implementation of community-focused initiatives, including membership programs.
  • Gather and relay community feedback to enhance service delivery.
  • Empower community members to take active roles in the mission and goals of Ohio History Connection.
  • Serve as a resource for inquiries related to community engagement.

Administrative and Sustainability Duties:

  • Innovate methods for documenting and sharing Ohio's history, particularly from underrepresented areas.
  • Manage budgetary allocations and track expenditures.
  • Prepare proposals for grants and sponsorships to secure funding.
  • Engage in fundraising efforts and maintain relationships with donors.
  • Oversee program evaluations and contribute to reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to enhance community awareness and engagement.

Collaboration and Efficiency:

  • Strengthen internal relationships to optimize resource use and program alignment.
  • Support established initiatives, including historical markers and community engagement projects.
  • Work closely with outreach services to build effective partnerships.

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in a relevant field with three to five years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with one to three years of relevant experience.
