The AVP Business Continuity Risk Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting the bank's Operational Risk Management and Business Continuity Management (BCM) Program. Acting as a key advisor within the second line of defense, this position is responsible for identifying risks and controls that impact the organization's strategic and risk appetite objectives. Collaboration with various governance and control functions, including Internal Audit, Third Party Risk Management, and Information Security, is essential to ensure that operational risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated through robust business continuity measures and disaster recovery testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance, manage, and implement the Business Continuity Management and Disaster Recovery program to bolster operational resilience.
- Lead initiatives to identify emerging BCM risks and trends, providing strategic recommendations to senior management for process improvements, testing assessments, and program efficiencies.
- Align BCM strategies with the overarching Operational Risk Management framework and enterprise risk management objectives.
- Assess and oversee vendor business continuity capabilities to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
- Conduct comprehensive business impact analyses across various business units to address and document significant business continuity risks in plans, ensuring thorough testing.
- Collaborate with first lines to facilitate business continuity and disaster recovery testing, including simulated scenarios to evaluate plans, identify vulnerabilities, and ensure readiness for effective responses.
- Work with stakeholders to prioritize critical processes, vendors, and resources essential for continuity planning and incident response.
- Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to equip employees for effective responses to business disruptions and incidents.
- Lead BCM Committee meetings, providing insights into BCM risks and initiatives.
- Support internal audits and examinations as necessary.
- Coordinate enterprise storm preparation calls and execute BCM notifications as required.
This role demands a high degree of independence, sound judgment, and discretion. The successful candidate will engage in extensive collaboration with various departments, necessitating strong organizational skills. Attention to detail and accuracy are critical, as responsibilities are visible to senior management and regulatory bodies. Key aspects of the role include problem-solving, strategic risk planning, and risk escalation.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience in Operational Risk Management.
- Background in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.
- Self-driven with the ability to work autonomously and learn independently.
- Proficient in engaging with business units and other risk areas to ensure timely and accurate assessments.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply risk management principles in a business context is preferred.
- Professional demeanor with the capacity to communicate effectively and make informed decisions based on thorough analysis.
- Familiarity with banking operations and risk management programs is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Archer or similar Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) tools is preferred.
- Relevant certifications in Risk, Audit, Information Security, or Business Continuity (e.g., CIA, CRCM, CISA, BCCP/BCCS/BCCE, CBCP, CBCI) are desirable.
