The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals with various care activities and related nonclinical services. This position requires a supportive and courteous demeanor, working under the general supervision of the Patient Care Manager or designee.
Duties and Essential Functions- Assists Registered Nurses (RNs) and/or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with non-nursing tasks, including crash cart checks, quality control checks, and retrieving equipment/supplies.
- Provides routine patient care and treatment, as delegated by RNs/LPNs or designees, including vital signs, intake/output, pain level assessment, and administering enemas.
- Recognizes and practices within scope of certification and competency levels, relaying any questions, concerns, or situations requiring follow-up or attention to supervising RNs/LPNs.
- Effectively communicates pertinent information in shift-to-shift and transfer reports, and documents items in EPIC as indicated.
- Minimum requirement: High School diploma or GED and completion of an approved State Registered Nursing Assistant Program.
- Holds current certification as a State Registered Nursing Assistant (SRNA) in the State of Kentucky.
- Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Achieves and maintains Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within 90 days of start.
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.
Physical Demands- Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
- Frequently required to walk and move about, operate a computer and other equipment, and use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds, frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
- Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
