The YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a dynamic and experienced Group Exercise Instructor to lead our fitness classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels.

About the Role:

  • We are looking for an individual who can effectively build community within class and modify instruction as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs.">
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to lead a group of participants through a series of movements and exercises in a safe and effective manner.">
  • A current certification in Group Exercise from a nationally certifying body (such as ACE or AFAA) is required.">
  • This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with members and staff.">
  • The ideal candidate will be able to maintain a working knowledge of wellness trends and provide effective information and support to members.">

Responsibilities:

  1. ">
  2. Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.">
  3. Ask and answer questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.">
  4. Maintain a working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.">
  5. Build effective, authentic relationships with members and help them connect with each other and the YMCA.">
  6. Observe and adjust approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.">
  7. Celebrate achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills, or overall health and well-being.">
  8. Keep accurate class attendance records.">
  9. Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations.">

Requirements:

  • ">
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or a related field from an accredited college or university.">
  • At least two years of experience in Group Exercise settings.">
  • Experience in personal training and health and wellness programming.">
  • Background in internal and external marketing/special events.">
  • Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.">
