Job Summary

This role is part of the administration team at IASIS Healthcare and is responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in the physician practice. The Patient Service Specialist must maintain a professional, positive manner when interacting with patients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer calls and route them appropriately, taking messages and ensuring that the relevant team member receives the information.
  • Provide routine information to callers and give only authorized medical advice from a provider.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to all patients of the practice.
  • Create patient cases and document telephone calls and messages into the electronic medical record.
  • Schedule patient appointments and testing as requested.
  • Register patients in the electronic medical record and verify information, including demographics and insurance details.
  • Collect required insurance co-pays from patients, including any prior balances.
  • Follow scheduling notes and direct schedules for patient visits in other practices as advised.
  • Perform pre-visit planning daily for all upcoming scheduled appointments, including running insurance eligibility.
  • Obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need.
  • Perform outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality measurement/guidelines.
  • Schedule specialty appointments/testing as required.
  • Perform work in electronic medical record buckets as directed and per practice need.
  • Inform manager of administrative supply needs or assist with ordering.
  • Follow up with providers on missing slips and create claims in the electronic medical record.
  • Work assigned revenue cycle buckets as directed.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adhere to IASIS Healthcare policies.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Requirements
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to three years of experience as a medical secretary preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
