Custody Deputy

Join the County of Santa Barbara team as a Custody Deputy, responsible for maintaining custody and supervising the work and conduct of inmates in detention facilities. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively under stress, and a commitment to maintaining jail safety and security.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and instruct inmates in various activities, including maintenance, operational, and rehabilitative tasks.
- Ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and compliance with jail regulations in living areas of inmates.
- Prevent escapes, injuries, and destruction of property, and search for contraband.
- Submit reports and prepare correspondence, and transport prisoners and guards as directed.
- Graduation from high school or passing of the G.E.D. test indicating high school graduation level.
- Age: 18 years or older.
- Good physical condition with the ability to pass a comprehensive medical examination based on County of Santa Barbara medical standards, and the ability to pass a job-related physical agility examination.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's license at time of appointment.
- Ability to learn the use and care of firearms.
The selection process for this role includes a written examination, physical agility test, and background investigation. Candidates must meet the minimum requirements and pass all phases of the selection process to be considered for the position.
