JOB SUMMARY:

The Art Security Officer (ASO) is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service to all members of the MCASD community while enhancing the visitor experience.

The ASO will monitor and ensure the safety and security of staff, visitors, the art collection, and the museum's physical premises.

ASOs will enforce MCASD policies to protect the collection from damage or theft and make informed decisions during various safety, security, and emergency situations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct regular patrols of museum galleries.
  • Ensure compliance with museum policies to protect the collection and prevent theft or damage.
  • Perform daily security patrols effectively.
  • Complete safety and security audits and reports, including Incident Reports and Observation Reports.
  • Provide information about museum exhibits, events, and the surrounding area to visitors.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g., medical emergencies, natural disasters).
  • Participate in training sessions and become knowledgeable about all exhibitions and programming.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility to work alternate, part-time, or special event shifts, including weekends and evenings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.

Exceptional customer service skills, maintaining professionalism in a dynamic environment.

Ability to engage with the public in a busy tourist destination, field questions, and provide information about the museum's history, exhibitions, and visitor services.

Capability to learn about museum exhibitions, events, and the local area.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.

Ability to respond to emergencies, including providing medical assistance and evacuation support during incidents.

Must possess a high school diploma and have relevant experience or equivalent education. Some post-secondary coursework is preferred. Prior experience in a museum or art-related setting is advantageous. Bilingual candidates are preferred.


BACKGROUND CHECKS AND LICENSING:

Candidates will undergo professional reference checks and criminal background checks. CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or the ability to obtain it through MCASD-provided training is required.


SPECIAL LICENSING:

Candidates must possess and maintain an active BSIS Security Guard Card.


VACCINATION STATUS:

Candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination upon hire, unless approved for a disability or religious accommodation.
