OBJECTIVE
Under the guidance of the General Manager, oversees various operational functions that manage the movement of materials to and from the facility in the most efficient, productive, and cost-effective manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for the overall operational efficiency and physical state of the facility and its equipment. Manages daily activities related to delivery and storage operations.
Collaborates with department leads to train and develop staff engaged in operational tasks across various sectors.
Develops budgets and monitors operating expenses to achieve or surpass annual profit objectives.Formulates operational strategies and objectives, setting priorities for each department to ensure a seamless flow of products to clients.
Regularly evaluates team and individual performance by analyzing operational reports that track on-time deliveries, back orders, labor hours, shipments received, etc.
Addresses issues related to processes, costs, orders, maintenance, inventory management, equipment, services, and systems that impact the division's capacity to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Creates comprehensive operational schedules and coordinates staffing challenges with team leaders in Warehouse, Shipping, Yard, Office, and Purchasing to ensure optimal operational performance and resource utilization.
Encourages interdepartmental communication with the Production Manager, Sales Manager, Controller, and other essential team members on processes that influence these areas, such as procurement for the mill, shipping of mill-produced products, documentation for accounts receivable and payable, special sales orders, and scheduling of deliveries.
Reviews and maintains vendor evaluations, making necessary recommendations for updates. Monitors current services and initiates new service options to keep Builders FirstSource competitive.
Participates in decisions regarding order acceptance or rejection.
Leads the enforcement of safe operating procedures in accordance with company and regulatory standards (DOT regulations, forklift operations, OSHA compliance, etc.)
Plans and executes upgrades and maintenance for equipment and facilities.
Engages with professional trade organizations such as the Home Builder's Association and participates in industry meetings and customer appreciation events.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Implements managerial responsibilities in line with organizational policies and applicable laws. Oversees employees such as Plant Managers or Supervisors.
Responsibilities encompass interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, directing, and delegating tasks; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing grievances and resolving issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To successfully fulfill this role, an individual must be capable of performing each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, along with four years of directly related experience in the lumber or building materials sector, covering multiple aspects of the business; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, trade publications, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory bodies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that adhere to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to senior management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Must be able to persuade individuals or groups to take actions that would lead to a mutually beneficial outcome.
Influencing others is a key requirement of this position. Exceptional leadership and teamwork abilities are essential.Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions and manage several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills
Must possess thorough knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn order processing and delivery systems.
