Job Title: Superintendent of Electrical Operations

Job Summary:

The City of Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent of Electrical Operations to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating the work of field crews engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical lighting and traffic signal equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage field crews to ensure efficient and effective completion of electrical maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Coordinate and direct personnel responsible for the cleaning and minor repair of streetlights and traffic signals, replacement of burnt-out or broken lamps, and resetting of electrical time controls equipment.
  • Oversee and monitor the dispatching of daily work assignments to field crews and authorize emergency repairs.
  • Oversee the purchasing and inventory control of electrical maintenance supplies.
  • Direct the preparation of management reports concerning the productivity of subordinate personnel.
  • Meet and confer with field crew supervisors to assign personnel, prioritize work assignments, and coordinate the availability of equipment and materials.
  • Establish and oversee the implementation of operating policies and work standards and procedures.
  • Schedule and coordinate work projects and activities.
  • Establish and monitor goals and objectives for field crew assignments, ensuring productivity and quality standards are met.
  • Direct on-site inspections to ensure the quality and timeliness of work and to ensure that staff follow proper safety procedures.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a directly related field.
  • Five years of experience in infrastructure, construction, or electrical operations, with two years in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • A valid State of Illinois driver's license.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods.
  • Ability to climb staircases, ladders, and/or step stools.
  • Ability to operate automotive vehicles and associated equipment.
