The Electric Operations division at PSE is seeking qualified individuals for the role of Supervisor Grid Management Technology.

Position Overview

In this role, you will lead a team of skilled technologists and engineers dedicated to tackling real-time operational challenges within the distribution grid. Your efforts will focus on enhancing grid reliability and resilience while advancing technologies that facilitate the adoption of clean energy solutions.

You will uphold safety compliance standards as outlined in PSE's operational and field procedures related to your responsibilities, fostering a culture of total safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Provide coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities while building effective teams:
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, promoting a culture that prioritizes the elimination of at-risk behaviors through safety audits, inspections, and participation in safety meetings.
    • Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance and safety objectives.
    • Oversee the training and development of employees, ensuring that all required training is completed successfully.
    • Inspire and challenge employees to achieve business outcomes.
    • Ensure adherence to legal and operational compliance, as well as safety standards.
    • Conduct performance reviews and development plans.
    • Provide guidance and leadership support to team members to achieve employee, business, customer, and safety goals.
  • Lead the Operations Technology Team responsible for:
    • Managing the Grid Management System Support Team, ensuring the maintenance of the dynamic electric system model and facilitating the resolution of technical issues.
    • Collaborating with other PSE teams to implement emerging grid modernization technologies.
    • Providing engineering support for real-time distribution operations, developing contingency plans, and analyzing options to manage system constraints.
    • Integrating into project teams as a partner to lead new grid modernization technology initiatives.
    • Creating, reviewing, and modifying schematics of the network electrical model (NEM) system.
    • Performing system administration, including the design and configuration of operational rules.
    • Conducting high-level load flow analysis related to decisions on switching lines and managing customer loads.
    • Addressing complex problems associated with system issues and data inconsistencies.
  • Ensure System Reliability and Stability:
    • Proactively monitor and assess system reliability and performance, collaborating with the Operations Team and Engineers to devise solutions.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and operational requirements.
  • Provide 24/7 support for emergency response efforts as needed, including immediate and extended rotations driven by weather and system failures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering field (a WA State Professional Engineering license may be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • 3+ years of experience in operations or technical leadership.
  • Extensive experience in engineering systems analysis and planning.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
  • 5 years of prior experience with electrical engineering designs and specifications.
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Network modeling.
    • Geographic Information System (GIS).
    • SAP plant maintenance or related SAP modules.
    • Mapping electric distribution systems and substation configurations.
    • SCADA/DMS.
  • Familiarity with electric utility construction standards and operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of electric utility OMS-DMS and GIS.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $195,400. This role is also eligible for annual performance-based incentive bonuses.
