Job Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician I (BMET I) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of medical equipment throughout our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to equipment failures and perform emergency repairs as needed
  • Assist with after-hours on-call duty and provide technical support to hospital staff
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs in accordance with established protocols
  • Investigate and correct equipment failures to ensure safe and effective operation
  • Identify and requisition parts and supplies necessary for repair and maintenance
  • Schedule service and manage communication with vendors to minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs, including contract service work
Documentation and Communication
  • Communicate effectively with customers on work completed, equipment status, and potential alternatives
  • Perform incoming inspections, assign control numbers and labels, and acquire necessary information for accurate database inventory entries
  • Open and complete work orders in a timely manner
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to hospital staff on equipment operations and maintenance
Compliance and Safety
  • Meet all departmental and organizational performance standards
  • Maintain tools and test equipment and keep work areas clean
  • Follow safety practices and universal precautions in all work and assigned tasks
  • Report all safety or near-miss occurrences to management
Training and Teamwork
  • Pursue educational opportunities for professional and technical skill improvement
  • Comply with hospital policies regarding behavior, professional demeanor, and dress codes
  • Attend required team meetings and events
  • Actively participate in the process of evaluating and improving the quality and efficiency of service delivered by the department
Qualifications
  • Two Year Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or relevant education and/or on-the-job experience
  • 6 months experience in electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical repair in either a school or on-the-job setting
  • A valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two Year Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology
  • Up to three years of work experience in a healthcare environment
  • Military experience within a specialty associated with biomedical equipment repair
  • Supervised internship or creditable experience in maintaining and repairing clinical equipment
Additional Requirements
  • Working knowledge of standard computer applications
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to share on-call responsibilities
