Overview

The Biomedical Equipment Technician I (BMET I), is responsible for the repair of a variety of electronic and biomedical equipment within the organization. The BMET I will perform all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital they serve. The BMET I will assist users in the proper operation of equipment and advise users in maintaining an environment for the safe use of medical equipment.

This position will be based out of the M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital and the M Health Fairview Wellness Hub, providing primary support to clinics and backup support to hospitals throughout the M Health Fairview System.

Responsibilities Job Description

Equipment Maintenance & Repair
•Responds to emergency equipment failures as requested by healthcare operations
•Assists with after-hours on-call duty
•Performs troubleshooting and repair of medical equipment
•Performs scheduled maintenance in accordance with established schedules and protocols
•Investigates and corrects all equipment failures before returning the device to use
•Identifies requisitions and receives parts and supplies necessary for repair and maintenance of equipment and returns any required exchange parts
•Expedites shipment of equipment and parts to ensure department downtime is kept to a reasonable minimum
•Schedule service and manage communication with vendors and monitor progress while vendor is on site

Documentation & Communication
•Communicates timely and accurately with customers on work completed, equipment status, and advises for potential alternatives in emergencies
•Performs incoming inspections, attach, and assign control numbers and labels, and acquires the necessary information for accurate database inventory entries
•Open and complete work orders in a timely manner
•Maintains records of all maintenance and repairs including contract service work
•Provides technical assistance and instruction to hospital staff on equipment operations and maintenance with the support of a senior technician

Compliance & Safety
•Consistently meets all departmental and organizational performance standards
•Maintains tools and test equipment and keeps work areas clean
•Follows safety practices and universal precautions in all work and assigned tasks
•Report all safety or near-miss occurrences to management
•Documents all patient care equipment failures, user and maintainer errors

Training & Teamwork
•Pursues educational opportunities for professional and technical skill improvement
•Complies with hospital policies regarding behavior, professional demeanor, and dress codes
•Attend required team meetings and events
•Actively participates in the process of evaluating and improving the quality and efficiency of service delivered by department

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
•Two Year Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or relevant education and/or on the job experience
•6 months experience in electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical repair in either a school or on-the-job setting. (Actual classroom time may count toward this requirement.)
•A valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
•Two Year Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology
•Up to three years of work experience in a healthcare environment
•Military experience within a specialty associated with biomedical equipment repair
•Supervised internship or creditable experience in maintaining and repairing clinical equipment

Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):
•Working knowledge of standard computer applications
•Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary
•Ability to multitask
•Ability to share on-call responsibilities
