Role Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direct oversight of the Branch Manager, the Library Services Specialist II for Adult Services is tasked with delivering exceptional information and reader services to the community. This role emphasizes compassionate and unbiased customer service while developing and implementing a variety of innovative programs and outreach initiatives tailored for adult patrons. The specialist will also engage in high-level research inquiries and initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitates information services, including reader advisory, reference assistance, and technology support to patrons through various communication channels.
  • Collaborates with branch managers and external experts to design and execute library programs that meet the needs of adult users.
  • Conducts thorough research utilizing a wide range of resources, including library databases and digital services.
  • Provides technology training to the public in areas such as library software, personal devices, digital media, and internet usage.
  • Partners with branch managers to create and implement outreach strategies.
  • Actively promotes library resources and services, curating collections and recommending materials through various platforms.
  • Oversees and maintains library collections, making informed recommendations for acquisitions.
  • Works with management to establish and achieve branch objectives aligned with overall library goals.
  • Utilizes the library's circulation system to assist patrons with material requests.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots library technology, seeking assistance when necessary.
  • May participate in system-wide committees as needed.
  • Ensures the library facility is well-maintained and reports any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Keeps accurate records of service statistics.
  • Organizes library materials and performs shelving duties.
  • Completes ongoing tasks of moderate to high complexity.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of Library Associates' in-service training or nine credit hours in library science within two years of appointment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of adult users' interests, literature, and new material formats.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
  • Ability to remain composed and adaptable in a dynamic, public-facing environment.
  • Proficient in technology, including various software applications and personal devices.
  • Familiarity with the Windows operating system, internet resources, and social media.
  • Knowledge of various electronic devices and their effective use.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and library systems.
  • Capability to manage a diverse range of library projects.
  • Physical ability to reach, bend, and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to maneuver rolling book carts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted in standard office conditions with some exposure to seasonal drafts. There may be instances of eye strain from computer use and physical fatigue from counter-height work surfaces and repetitive lifting. The role involves regular interaction with the public, which may lead to stress.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE:
25 hours per week, including evenings, daytime, and weekends.
