Position Overview

Location: New York, NY

The Lead Visual Storyteller is tasked with curating and overseeing photography for feature articles and visual narratives for both print and digital mediums. This role involves researching, commissioning, and crafting visually compelling stories across various platforms. The position reports directly to the Director of Photography.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research, analyze, produce, edit, and commission photography for the print publication and digital platforms.
  • Develop, pitch, and produce original photo portfolios for both print and online.
  • Collaborate with various departments to create and produce innovative interactive features.
  • Identify and nurture new photographic projects from photographers, agencies, galleries, and publishers.
  • Propose and commission concepts for the online photo column.
  • Ensure accurate captioning and crediting of all visual content.
  • Work alongside photographers, agencies, vendors, and the licensing and business teams to establish budgets, expedite contracts, and manage invoices efficiently.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in assigning and producing photographic shoots for a national publication.
  • A robust portfolio showcasing artistic judgment and creativity.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of photography and familiarity with assignment photographers and photo rights.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous.
  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, and production capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • A keen interest in the topics covered by the publication, including news, politics, and culture.
  • Willingness to work during early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $85,000 and $110,000, with offers determined by a variety of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
