The Commercial Package Underwriting Manager plays a crucial role in providing technical expertise and program management to enhance efficiency, drive production, and ensure adherence to operational policies for the Commercial Package Line of Business, which encompasses property, general liability, inland marine, auto, and umbrella/excess. This position will oversee the technology and systems that support underwriting activities, facilitating growth in this line of business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote the strategy and growth of the Commercial Package Underwriting Line of Business by offering expertise and guidance to leadership.
- Assist in the development and adjustment of departmental goals, plans, procedures, and guidelines.
- Maintain a sales culture that consistently delivers on brand and product value by generating reports, providing training, and monitoring production.
- Collaborate with Branch Managers to train and develop Branch Team Members.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and work with technology teams on builds, including the development of underwriting management and policy administration systems.
- Identify, track, and report critical system issues.
- Conduct Branch underwriting audits to assess the quality of the business portfolio.
- Communicate timely updates to relevant department partners regarding industry, legal, and financial changes, including ISO/DOI rulings, forms, coverage changes, competition, policy issuance, and state filings.
- Provide workflow expertise for applications and automation.
- Develop and/or facilitate new products, programs, or offerings.
- Create key performance indicators for new markets and enhance sales.
- Review and analyze the underwriting portfolio to assess progress toward business objectives.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities but may mentor and/or train junior team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in commercial property, general liability, inland marine, auto, and umbrella/excess underwriting, preferably 5 years.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Statistics, or a related field is required. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Familiarity with commercial property, general liability, inland marine, auto, and umbrella/excess coverage.
- Understanding of automated workflows.
- Strong knowledge of insurance underwriting concepts and principles.
- Ability to build robust business relationships with internal and external customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Strong public and internal communication skills; proficiency in insurance systems and customer relationship management systems.
