Job Overview

We are expanding our technical team focused on Labvantage solutions and are seeking a Senior Technical Manager for Laboratory Information Systems. This role is integral to the Global IT DevSecOps team, providing support to R&D laboratories globally, and will report directly to the Global IT DevSecOps Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in the requirements gathering process, analyze and document specifications, and configure the Labvantage System for continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with the LIMS implementation lead, the vendor, the IT team, and laboratory subject matter experts to ensure the system aligns with user needs and business objectives.
  • Facilitate workshops with customers to gather information and develop prototypes for review as necessary.
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents or issues related to the Labvantage system, ensuring timely follow-up to resolution.
  • Oversee the implementation of upgrades and modifications to the LIMS, collaborating with the IT team, vendor, and Scrum team.
  • Participate in technical reviews and project meetings as required.
  • Develop systems in accordance with recognized programming standards.
  • Draft and review functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and traceability matrices as outlined in the project plan.
  • Provide technical insights and recommendations for data output options and suggest improvements for analysis and reporting.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with the IT Solution Architect to ensure alignment with business goals and adherence to security policies and architectural standards.
  • Work with Product Managers and laboratory SMEs to comprehend their requirements for the LIMS and implement tailored development projects.
  • Translate business needs into functional and non-functional requirements for the LIMS using various tools and techniques.
  • Maintain and update documentation for internal and external use.
  • Prepare periodic status reports on project progress.
  • Coordinate with the Product Manager and Scrum Master to plan the implementation of new functionalities and assess operational impacts.
  • Engage with stakeholders for the successful execution of LIMS tasks and ongoing support projects.
  • Stay informed about LIMS software capabilities and updates from the vendor.
  • Interact with the software vendor to resolve system issues as necessary.
  • Coordinate activities of the LIMS Technical Analyst for instrument connectivity and reporting.
  • Adapt to changing priorities as required.
  • Evaluate product enhancements and capabilities, implementing upgrades as necessary.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree.
  • Over 5 years of practical experience in complex institutional environments.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Experience in research and development is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Safe Agile certification is a plus.
  • Experience with LIMS such as LabVantage, LabWare, or similar systems is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Azure is a plus.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL, Oracle).
  • At least 3 years of programming experience in languages such as VB or Java.
  • Understanding of Java development methodologies and database management.
  • Ability to create and maintain system documentation.
  • Experience in developing technical specifications and configuring LIMS software.
  • Knowledge of web application server administration and configuration.

Non-Technical Skills

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to collaborate in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience working in a global context with distributed teams is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
