About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Healthcare Support Specialist to join our team at the University of Miami. This is a part-time, temporary position that requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support patients and healthcare facilities to obtain patient information for medical records in preparation for first clinic visits.
  • Assist with patient care, such as nursing activities and laboratory collections.
  • Explain HIPAA to patients and obtain signatures.
  • Submit signed consents to healthcare centers to initiate retrieval of medical records, x-rays, and other pertinent reports.
  • Track pending records to ensure delivery prior to clinic visits.
  • Communicate to the appropriate nurse coordinator if difficult or unable to obtain pertinent records.
  • Travel within the facility and campus to retrieve records, films, or CDs.
  • May collect and prepare specimens.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records per hospital policy while preserving confidentiality of patient information.
  • Assemble, complete, and process patients' charts.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, distributing, sorting, and storing supplies.
  • Report suspicious or unusual incidents to appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Assist with clerical duties, to include receiving phone calls, sending faxes and emails, and scanning and copying documents.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Bilingual English & Spanish preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills to interact with patients.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this position is $40,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience.
