Position Overview:
The Research Program Coordinator collaborates with the Senior Resource Educator on a variety of educational initiatives centered around citizen science and supports multiple field and laboratory research endeavors.

Key Responsibilities:
This role involves acting as the site coordinator for volunteer surveys related to horseshoe crab spawning, as well as assisting with shellfish aquaculture and other educational and restoration activities in the field.

As a site coordinator, you will be tasked with gathering scientific data during the annual horseshoe crab spawning surveys, which typically occur over several evenings in the spring. This includes working in pairs to count, measure, and tag spawning horseshoe crabs while providing educational support to volunteer participants.

Additionally, you may coordinate and guide casual participants interested in a one-time educational experience about horseshoe crabs and the associated programs.

This position also encompasses laboratory work at Flax Pond Marine Lab, where you will assist in evaluating horseshoe crab embryo development and participate in field experiments involving ribbed mussels and sample processing.

Other projects may include telemetry-based fieldwork for horseshoe crabs, which may require boat operations, as well as involvement in shellfish aquaculture and groundwater initiatives, with potential scuba diving or snorkeling activities.

In the shellfish aquaculture program, you will collaborate with the Shellfish Biologist in both hatchery and grow-out facilities, collecting data on shellfish and water quality, maintaining display tanks, and supporting public education efforts.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
  • Capability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge in natural sciences, plant sciences, or marine sciences.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and manage heavy equipment.
  • Flexibility to meet travel requirements associated with the role.
  • Compliance with background check standards and motor vehicle checks.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in biological data collection is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with established monitoring protocols and accurate data recording is preferred.
  • Ability to engage with the public and a passion for environmental stewardship is beneficial.

Compensation:
Hourly wage ranges from $15 to $35.

Employment Type:
