Position Summary
The Clinical Manager for the Medical Residency Program plays a vital role in enhancing the operational efficiency of clinical services by delivering routine, direct patient care grounded in evidence-based nursing practices. This position is integral to the patient care team, ensuring that care is provided with empathy, expertise, and dedication.
Moreover, the Clinical Manager collaborates closely with the medical residency program directors and residents to ensure the delivery of exceptional quality care within the residency clinic framework.
Communication Skills
Strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential for this role. The individual must effectively exchange information with patients, staff, and other stakeholders, fostering a supportive and positive atmosphere. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient care activities for both adult and pediatric populations, including triage, vital signs assessment, prior authorizations, venipuncture, and medication administration (injections, nebulizer treatments, oral medications), along with lab order entry and patient education.
- Provide clinical support by delivering patient care in collaboration with various healthcare providers, including medical residents, across multiple departments (such as adult medicine, pediatric medicine, laboratory, and administrative areas) as required.
- Ensure high-quality patient experiences and timely care during all interactions within the medical residency clinic and other departments as necessary.
- Act as a key contributor to the daily operations of the internal medicine residency program under the guidance of the Medical Residency Program Director, Continuous Improvement Coordinator, and Clinical Office Manager. This includes planning and coordinating the assignments of clinical staff and collaborating with managers overseeing non-clinical personnel (e.g., front desk, pharmacy, social services).
- Promote adherence to policies and procedures that enhance patient care while maintaining high levels of organizational efficiency, communication, and safety.
- Assist in managing outstanding tasks and documentation (such as medication refill requests, lab and imaging reports, medical records) in collaboration with and as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Exhibit critical thinking and organizational capabilities, providing leadership and serving as a role model for office staff.
- Perform additional procedures as directed by the Supervising Provider, Clinical Office Manager, or other Clinical Support Leaders, including:
- In-house waived testing such as pregnancy tests, hemoglobin, glucometer, urine dip, hemoccult-stool, and throat swab.
- Diagnostics like EKG or Blood Glucose monitoring.
- Administer routine vaccinations, medications, or injections.
- Assist providers with gynecological exams, rectal/STI exams, and other minor outpatient procedures.
Qualifications
- Possession of a current, unrestricted LPN or RN license issued by the state of Florida.
Knowledge and Experience
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience is required, with a focus on promoting wellness and managing chronic diseases within a primary care environment. Training in HIV/AIDS is recommended, and experience in a residency clinic is preferred.
- Familiarity with Infection Control Practices.
- Proficient in Electronic Health Records and Microsoft Outlook.
Physical Requirements
- Level 2 background clearance is mandatory.
- Documentation of immunizations for Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, and either a history of chickenpox (varicella) or proof of varicella vaccination, along with a PPD test conducted upon hire.
