Reports to: Supervisor of Early Education Programs

Employment Type: Part-Time hourly position, 10-month duration, working three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) with a maximum of 24 hours weekly.

Position Overview:

This part-time aide role is situated within the Early Intervention Family Centered Playgroup. The program is designed to assist families in transitioning their children into preschool through engaging playgroup activities. Our Family Centered Playgroup caters to toddlers and their families, meeting three times a week to enhance language development within everyday routines. Families receive guidance on strategies to foster their child's communication, language, social, and cognitive growth.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma; an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Experience working with young children.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with children, staff, parents, and supervisors.
  • Capability to support language development as outlined in the child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Understanding of Infant and Toddler Development.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language, with a Level 2+ (or higher) ASLPI rating preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising, caring for, and instructing deaf and hard of hearing toddlers alongside their families during playgroup sessions.
  • Oversee students and foster a collaborative environment during playtime.
  • Engage with families and children to promote language use, encourage play, and address minor issues as they arise.
  • Manage playground equipment and ensure proper storage after activities.
  • Exhibit flexibility to adapt to program needs and various activities.
  • Bring creativity to brainstorm ideas and facilitate opportunities for language development.
  • Help organize diverse play activities and games as approved by the Teacher.
  • Ensure the safety of students during all playgroup activities.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Position involves sitting and playing on the floor with children aged 2-3 years, standing for extended periods, and occasional walking.
  • Ability to assist children with potty training and diaper changes, including lifting students to changing tables or toilets.
  • Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and occasional climbing required.
  • Ability to lift and move lighter objects such as playground equipment, books, chairs, and student desks.
  • Manual dexterity necessary for operating office equipment.
