Job Description

The Veterinary Care Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our care. This position involves working collaboratively with veterinarians to provide top-notch medical care, performing routine dental cleanings, administering medications and vaccinations, and monitoring animal responses to anesthetics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists veterinarians during exams, providing restraint as needed to ensure safe and effective work.
  • Prepares and administers medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Performs routine dental cleanings under the direction of veterinarians.
  • Administers anesthesia to animals under veterinarian supervision and monitors responses to adjust dosages.
  • Obtains radiographs of animals using proper positioning and techniques.
  • Cares for recovering animals after surgery and monitors their condition.
  • Performs laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provides emergency first aid, including resuscitation and life-saving procedures.
  • Collects, prepares, and labels samples for testing, culture, or microscopic examination.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Provides veterinarians with necessary equipment and instruments.
  • Fills prescriptions, measures medications, and labels containers.
  • Prepares animals for surgery, including shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.
  • Maintains clean examination rooms and treatment areas.
Requirements
  • Active listening, critical thinking, complex problem-solving, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lift patients up to 40lbs with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push, and squat.
