Special Education Support Staff

Under the general direction of site administration and a certificated staff member, the Special Education Para-Educator III will perform a variety of duties in support of instructional activities for students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Adaptation and Support: Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials to provide opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in classroom activities.
- Assistance with Daily Living Skills: Assist students with disabilities with daily living skills, such as toileting, diapering, and feeding.
- Collaboration with Staff: Confer with teachers, school psychologists, and staff to evaluate progress, implement IEP objectives, and identify resources.
- Instruction and Support: Implement academic instruction for individuals or small groups, using specialized techniques and strategies as required.
- Behavioral Support: Implement behavioral plans designed by an IEP team to assist students with behavior disorders or other conditions.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, AA/AS degree, or CBEST, or 48+ semester college units, or Paraprofessional Certification.
- Licenses and Certificates: Compliance with District skill/competency requirements, nonviolent crisis prevention training, and CPR/First Aid training.
The Special Education Para-Educator III will work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, schools, and community-based locations. The ideal candidate will be able to work well independently and as part of a team, and will have the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.
