Overview of Responsibilities
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) Division of Comprehensive Health Services Pharmacy Services is committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive, and economically viable pharmaceutical and clinical care to the offender population.
The Clinical Pharmacist role is situated within the DAC Division of Comprehensive Health Services at the Apex Central Pharmacy and is tasked with providing statewide pharmacy clinical services. Key responsibilities encompass:
- Assessing nonformulary drug utilization review requests in alignment with the DAC formulary and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee decisions.
- Advising on formulary drug alternatives and providing expert pharmacotherapy support, including drug interaction assessments and monitoring requirements.
- Developing institutional tools based on nationally-recognized Clinical Practice Guidelines for various medical conditions.
- Engaging in clinical programs across facilities, focusing on areas such as antibiotic stewardship, diabetes management, and mental health.
- Serving as a specialized clinical resource for drug information and training, while monitoring drug regimens.
- Processing medication orders and participating in after-hours on-call duties.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient understanding of professional pharmacy principles and practices, with the ability to perform core competencies as defined for Clinical Pharmacists.
- Capability to provide specialized clinical consultation and comprehensive drug information, identifying complex adverse drug interactions and suggesting necessary revisions to treatment plans.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina and possess a minimum of one year of clinical pharmacy practice experience.
