About the Role

This dynamic role is a key contributor to the long-term development of a regional system of care for stroke across UPMC Central PA. As a Stroke Coordinator, you will oversee hospital stroke care processes and quality, collaborating with other site Stroke Coordinators and program leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Improvement: Ensure consistency in delivery of stroke care from admission to discharge, ensuring site compliance with regulatory requirements and published clinical practice guidelines.
  • Clinical Support: Respond to Emergency Department and inpatient stroke alerts to provide support and facilitate timely treatment.
  • Educational Outreach: Provide support, education, and guidance for relevant nursing and provider teams, acting as a liaison and educator to UPMC Neuroscience staff and multiple referral centers and EMS agencies.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience for a Primary Stroke Center, Advanced Primary Stroke Center or Acute Stroke Ready neuroscience nursing experience, and 5 years for those facilities that are Thrombectomy Capable and Comprehensive.
  • NIH Stroke Scale and Modified Rankin Score certifications within 3 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated competence in professional nursing practice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
