Communications Technician I

Job Summary:

The Communications Technician I will be responsible for installing and maintaining telecommunications systems, including structured cabling, network infrastructure, and low-voltage devices. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and terminate low-voltage devices, including patch panels, routers, and switches.
  • Route and install cable, including fiber optic and copper cabling.
  • Perform pre-termination procedures, including organizing, forming, and dressing cables.
  • Suspend and support cable correctly using cable trays, J-hooks, and other methods.
  • Build and install closets, including mounting backboards, cross-connects, racks, and patch panels.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetration.
  • Terminate low-voltage devices and complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals.
  • Ability to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.

Working Conditions:

The Communications Technician I will work in an outdoor or indoor construction work environment. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
