Job Title: Grocery D/F Bulk Assistant

Overview

The Grocery/Dairy/Frozen/Bulk Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Grocery/Bulk and Dairy/Frozen Managers in achieving the successful operation and profitability of the Grocery/Bulk and Dairy/Frozen departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive experience for all customers.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels, ordering, and receiving products for the grocery, bulk, dairy, and frozen departments.
  • Support the department managers in managing margin, COGs, and overall department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
  • Ensure all in-stock products meet company standards, and maintain a clean and organized store environment.
  • Offer and follow up on special orders, and provide product knowledge to customers.
  • Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays to create an inviting shopping experience.
  • Assist in managing and participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
  • Support the training and monitoring of department personnel, including assigning and following up on tasks.
  • Conduct active and passive demos to engage customers and promote products.
  • Work collaboratively with the department managers to address performance issues within the department.
  • Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cash handling and cashier closeout responsibilities.
  • Handle register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes.
  • Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
  • Answer customer questions, providing accurate and helpful information.
  • Continuously increase product knowledge to provide excellent customer service.
  • Utilize SAP and inventory management software, as well as other IS programs, to support store operations.
  • Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
  • 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
  • Possess a sense of urgency in completing tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through.
  • Cashier training and ability to count currency.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
