Job Title: Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician

Timmons Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our Geotechnical and Construction Services Group in Richmond, VA.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager, the Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician will apply technical expertise to observe and test various materials associated with site, road, and building construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform field materials testing of soil, asphalt, and concrete under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • Prepare detailed and complete field reports with relevant test results, observations, and recommendations.
  • Review project plans and specifications to ensure knowledge of project details and requirements.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepare reports of results.
  • Ensure field and laboratory testing equipment is in proper operating condition.
  • Maintain all certifications as determined by senior engineering staff.
  • Assist senior engineering personnel with conducting geotechnical investigations.
  • Evaluate site conditions on construction projects and provide recommendations with input from senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and senior engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues.
Requirements
  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of related experience or training.
  • Current ACI certification for concrete is a plus, but not required.
  • Current VDOT certifications for soils, concrete, and asphalt pavement are a plus, but not required.
  • Must have received training on the field equipment used to perform tests and the office equipment used to generate data, results, and reports.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field, and perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
