Job Title: Patient Financial Advisor - Transplant Specialist

At The University of Kansas Health System, we are seeking a highly skilled Patient Financial Advisor - Transplant Specialist to join our team. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the effective financial reimbursement of each transplant patient, while also providing comprehensive and ongoing financial counseling to patients and their families.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reimbursement for transplant patients
  • Provide financial counseling and education to patients and families
  • Research and verify insurance coverage and limitations
  • Coordinate resources and possibilities when little or no insurance is available
  • Present financial profiles at evaluation and other pertinent meetings
  • Provide financial organization and management training and assistance to transplant candidates and their families
  • Determine insurance coverage for immunosuppressive medications and other transplant-related discharge medications
  • Establish procedures for pre-certification, pre-authorization, forms and letters of medical necessity
  • May assist in writing or obtaining letters of medical necessity and associated documents
  • Send documents to payors, both public and private, and follow up on responses
  • Facilitate the development of individual case rate agreements with underinsured patients
  • Assist with education of insurance companies on coverage for procedures considered experimental
  • Pre-authorize scheduled transplant evaluations and transplant surgeries
  • Verify specific coverage for unrelated bone marrow donor searches
  • Advise patients of benefits and advise them of financial obligations
  • Help patients initiate fundraising efforts
  • Register transplant patients and donors with the appropriate guarantor type
  • Submit approvals and denials of patients to each transplant program in writing
  • Initiate bundled billing episodes in accordance with global billing requirements
Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 3 or more years of experience in financial advising, claims processing, collections, customer service, revenue cycle positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 or more years of Epic experience
  • 4 or more years of CPT-4 and HCPCS coding experience
Knowledge Requirements:
  • Maintain certification as a Transplant Financial Advisor on an annual basis
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and escalate
  • Demonstrated good oral and written skills
  • Ability to type (45 wpm)
  • Working knowledge of CMS regulations
  • Working knowledge of Transplant (BMT and/or Solid)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft (Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of Insurance (Commercial & Government)
  • Knowledge of Payor websites
