Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team in the Division of Laboratory and Animal Resources (DLAR). As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in providing veterinary medical care and maintenance of animal colony health, assisting veterinarians with animal study support, and performing animal technical procedures under their direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with the provision of veterinary medical care and maintenance of animal colony health
  • Provide animal study support and perform animal technical procedures under the direction of a veterinarian
  • Periodically provide animal husbandry and care or cage wash support to meet the operational needs of the facility
  • Successfully enroll in the University of Pittsburgh Animal Exposure Surveillance Program and other medical surveillance/immunization programs as dictated by current research activities
  • Comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, maintain accurate and legible records, and demonstrate positive interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Work weekends and holidays, stand for extended periods, lift 50 pounds, push/pull heavy equipment, and pass mandatory criminal and social background checks
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; combination of education and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education and/or experience requirement
  • No experience required; willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift 50 pounds, and push/pull heavy equipment
