UW Medicine is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Scholar to join our esteemed Division of Cardiology within the Department of Medicine. This role focuses on investigating the significance of mitochondria-containing extracellular vesicles (MitoEV) in the context of sterile inflammation linked to heart failure and type 2 diabetes.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will engage in a range of research activities, including:
- Cell-Based Research (50%):
- Creating gene-deletion monocyte lines utilizing CRISPR technology.
- Conducting volume-metric flow analysis to assess MitoEV release.
- Performing confocal and electron microscopy to examine subcellular structures.
- Executing biochemical assays for functional and anatomical evaluations of mitochondria and lysosomes.
- Assessing mitophagy and autophagy through live-cell imaging and flow analysis.
- Development of Animal Models (50%):
- Generating and maintaining gene-knockout mouse lines.
- Administering isolated MitoEV via venous injection.
- Conducting small animal nuclear imaging to evaluate tissue targeting of MitoEV.
- Analyzing tissue samples for inflammation.
- Performing trans-thoracic echocardiograms to assess left ventricular function.
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant biological science field, along with a robust publication history, particularly in first-author contributions. Preference will be given to those with aspirations for an academic career.
Compensation and BenefitsThis position offers a competitive salary, with a base range of $5,705 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Opportunities for securing postdoctoral grants, such as T32, F32, and AHA fellowships, are available.
