Job Overview

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Marine Operations Specialist responsible for the safe navigation and management of various response vessels. This role is crucial in supporting pre-booming operations and executing planned and emergency response projects. The primary responsibility involves operating a 34-ft, inboard, single-screw vessel. This is a full-time position with a rotating schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

Vessel Management:

  • Safely operate response vessels during deployment, towing, and anchoring of oil spill containment boom and related equipment.
  • Supervise crew members effectively.
  • Maintain vessels, equipment, and facilities through regular maintenance and cleaning tasks.
  • Engage in meetings, training sessions, drills, and safety audits as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Operate company vehicles as necessary.
  • Prior maritime experience is essential.

Typical Work Schedule:

Week 1: Work seven consecutive days from 6 AM to 6 PM (day shift).

Week 2: Seven days off.

Week 3: Work seven consecutive days from 6 PM to 6 AM (night shift).

Week 4: Seven days off. This schedule repeats.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a vessel operator.
  • Experience handling single-screw inboard vessels up to 40 feet in close quarters.
  • Experience operating vessels in high currents and adverse weather conditions.
  • Prior maritime experience is mandatory.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Washington State Boater's Card.
  • TWIC card required, must be able to provide or obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • 24-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations is preferred.
  • Completion of mandatory training and other required programs.
  • Valid driver's license and car insurance, with a clean driving record.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Availability for after-hours emergency response.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs occasionally, and perform various physical tasks for up to 12 hours in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to complete a background check.
  • Must pass a DOT pre-employment drug test and participate in random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Meet DOT and HAZMAT physical and fitness requirements for the position.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $25 to $32.
